Inciteful Preaching: DSS deploys armed personnel over ban of Islamic cleric Nasir-Kabara

Following the ban on preaching and other activities of Sheik Abduljabar Nasiru-Kabara, the Department of State Service on Thursday deployed its armed personnel in the cleric’s mosque and residence to ensure strict compliance to the order.

The Kano State Government had banned an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabar Nasir-Kabara, for inciteful preaching.

Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, who announced the order in a statement on Thursday in Kano, said that the government considered the cleric’s mode of teachings as ”incendiary”.

Garba also announced the immediate closure of all schools run by the cleric, pending investigations by security agencies.

He said that the measure was part of the resolutions of the State Executive Council, at its meeting on Wednesday in Kano.

”The council directed all broadcast stations and social media platforms to stop airing preaching, sermons, and any other religious discussions likely to cause a breach of the peace of the state.

The commissioner added that security agencies had been directed to ensure full compliance and take decisive action against erring persons or groups found flouting the order.

A resident of the Filin Mushe area that the DSS took the measure to prevent the embattled cleric’s followers from coming out to protest or engage in anything that could breach the peace of the state.

The source said the DSS Personnel had already taken over the seen at strategic locations around the cleric’s places of worship to ensure law and order.

The Qadirriya House (Family House of the cleric) had sometimes in 2008 witnessed heavy drafting of armed security personnel following threat to peace by his followers when they were prevented from carrying out their annual Mauqibi religious festival in the city.
