Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission raids El-Rufai’s Abuja home

Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have searched the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as investigations into him deepen.

The search reportedly took place late Thursday at his Aso Drive home, barely 24 hours after the commission confirmed that the former governor was in its custody.

El-Rufai’s latest brush with anti-graft agencies follows his earlier arrest and subsequent bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He had honoured an invitation by the EFCC on Monday and was granted bail on Wednesday before being taken into custody by the ICPC the same day.

In a statement issued Wednesday night, ICPC spokesperson Mr. J. Okor Odey confirmed that El-Rufai was being detained in connection with ongoing investigations.

“The Commission wishes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is in our custody as at the close of work today, Wednesday, February 18, 2026. He is in the custody of the Commission in connection with ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

However, the ICPC did not disclose the specific allegations under investigation, noting that further updates would be provided in line with its procedures.

On Thursday night, El-Rufai’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, announced via social media that ICPC operatives had conducted a search at the former governor’s residence.

Reacting to the development, El-Rufai’s counsel, Ubong Akpan, condemned the action, describing it as unlawful and a violation of due process and the former governor’s fundamental rights.

As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC had yet to respond to the concerns raised by El-Rufai’s legal team. More details are expected as investigations continue.
