INEC fixes February 20, 2027 for next presidential election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, February 20, 2027, for the conduct of Nigeria’s next presidential and National Assembly elections.

The announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, where he outlined the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general elections.

According to the schedule released by the electoral body, the presidential and National Assembly polls will hold on February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are slated for early March 2027.

Yakubu said the early announcement of the election date is in line with constitutional and legal requirements, aimed at giving political parties, aspirants and other stakeholders adequate time to prepare.
