INEC warns Nigerians against fake voter registration website

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians about a fake website used by scammers for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

This was disclosed in a statement by Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, on Friday in Abuja.

Okoye urges Nigerians to remain vigilant about the fake website circulating online for voter registration, he said the fake website can be used to steal the personal information of unsuspecting Nigerians.

The statement put out the fake website as “ https://register.inec-pvc.online/ with shortened URL as https://bit.ly/INEC-PvcReg2021. INEC thereby called on Nigerians to avoid using the website for their online voters’ registration, as it has not been accredited or instituted by INEC.

Okoye said the approved online portal for voter registration is  https://cvr.inecnigeria.org,

INEC had earlier disclosed that there is great progress in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), as the portal had so far generated 1.6 million signups, with 195,591 Nigerians already completing their CVR registration.
