Sequel to media reports that late Dora Akunyili’s husband, Dr Chike may have been killed by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the group has denied the allegation.
It was reported that Chike was shot dead on Tuesday evening by gunmen at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, while returning from a trip in Onitsha, where he had gone to collect a posthumous award of excellence on behalf of his deceased wife.

Reacting to this, the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday observed a minute silence to mourn the death of Dr Chike.
The upper chamber mourned the deceased following a point of order raised by Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife (Anambra Central).
Ekwunife, in her personal explanation, having cited Order 43 of Senate Rule, said the deceased was murdered in Anambra.
According to her, late Chike, until his death was the Medical Director of St Luke Hospital, Enugu State, contributed immensely to health care in Nigeria.
She explained that the deceased was gruesomely murdered by gunmen.
However, in an interview with Tribune on Wednesday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, claimed that those who poisoned the former NAFDAC boss were still after the family.
Powerful said the unknown gunmen were not members of IPOB, adding that people with evil agenda for Biafra still link the group to murderous acts.
He said Chike was not a problem to the group.
“Dora Akunyili’s husband is not our problem and cannot be. Let Anambra people and Biafrans know that we have no business with Mazi Chike Akunyili.
“Those who poisoned his wife are still after the family because they have a mission to finish the family,” he said.
“It is unfortunate that those who planned and poison late Dora Akunyili would link IPOB on this man’s death. It is important to note that IPOB are not unknown gunmen.
“We have disassociated ourselves from this group unknown gunmen but people with evil agenda to the people of Biafra are still linking IPOB to this murderous group. IPOB doesn’t know anything about Dora Akunyili’s husband because we are not unknown gunmen.
“ESN was set up to protect and secure our mothers and sisters to go to the farms. Those doing this are trying to do it so our people will support IPOB. But Biafrans are wiser and know what traitors are doing. We want to make it clear to them that IPOB is not behind the killing going on in Anambra State. It is politicians killing people in the state.
“IPOB has no intention of fomenting trouble in our land. Please, we beg those linking us into this madness to desist because they will regret their actions soon.”
