IPOB/ISWAP wreak havoc in Imo, kill 7 community leaders

Tragedy struck last night in the Umucheke Okwe autonomous community of Onuimo Local Government Area, Imo state, as gunmen believed to be affiliated with IPOB/ISWAP killed seven community leaders during a meeting.

A source from the community, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the gunmen arrived and immediately opened fire at the President General’s shop in the community market, where the meeting was being held.

“Gunmen have just shot dead the President General of Umucheke Okwe and six village heads,” the source said. “Upon their arrival, the gunmen unleashed gunfire, killing all the community leaders before setting the place ablaze.

All the community chiefs perished in the assault,” the source stated

The victims included the President General of the community and six other village leaders.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. “Nobody understands the reason for the assault. No one knows the purpose of the meeting,”.

At the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Command, through the Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, was yet to respond to the incident.

Attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful, as his phone remains switched off.
