The Zamfara State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Dauran has refuted reports of the release of 317 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, last week.

There had been widespread reports of the release of the girls earlier in the day after a purported government official made the claims on Channels television.

However, a media aide to Governor Matawalle, Yusuf Idris, told newsmen that efforts were still ongoing to secure the release of the girls.

Idris said the governor had just concluded a meeting with traditional rulers in the state, towards ensuring the safe return of the students.

The commissioner of police in the state, Abutu Yaro, also confirmed that the girls were yet to be released.

“I want to call the attention of the good people of Zamfara State, they should disregard any fake news regarding the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe by one national daily. It’s not true.

Meanwhile, Federal government delegation to Zamfara State has assured Governor Bello Matawalle and Nigerians that the abducted schoolgirls would regain their freedom in no distance time.

The delegation led by Senator Hadi Serika was sent to Zamfara to commiserate with its people over the kidnap of 317 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.

The delegation who also condemned the act, described it as inhuman but assured that the federal government will take drastic measures against the reoccurrence of such violence.

The delegation claimed the federal government has designed means to ensure that security policies of the country would perfectly deal with the insecurity ravaging the entire country.

“The terrorists who have found it very profitable to abduct school children would soon be fished out following the new federal government strategy on security”
