JAMB officials storm out of house committee meeting over media presence

A mild drama unfolded at the National Assembly on Wednesday when representatives of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) abruptly walked out of a session with the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies.

The tension began when Mufutau Bello, a Director representing JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, demanded that journalists leave the meeting room, claiming that the documents he intended to present contained sensitive information.

However, members of the Committee declined the request, insisting that the proceedings were public and constitutionally within their control to conduct openly.

The disagreement quickly escalated when Bello, appearing visibly agitated, instructed his team to leave the venue, staging a dramatic walkout that left lawmakers stunned.

Infuriated by the action, the Committee ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest the JAMB officials, but they had already exited the building.

The Committee has now directed JAMB’s Registrar to appear in person with his full management team and present the requested documents by next Tuesday. It also warned that failure to comply could result in the issuance of a warrant of arrest.
