Kano Hisbah arrests couple for restaurant wedding
The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended a man and his girlfriend for holding an unapproved marriage ceremony at Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road, Kano.
Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, the Deputy Commander General of Operations, confirmed the arrest to journalists on Thursday, stating that Hisbah officers raided the restaurant on Wednesday night after receiving a tip-off.
“It is unfortunate to report that the marriage was solemnised at the restaurant by the man’s friends, without the consent of the couple’s parents,” he explained.
He further emphasized that the board would not tolerate such actions and would continue to take measures against anyone violating Shari’a law in the state.
The deputy commander also revealed that the board had launched a search for the guests who participated in the illegal ceremony.
“We have arrested the couple and are now pursuing the groom’s friends who fled the scene when our personnel arrived,” he said.
Dr. Abubakar pointed out that the couple’s actions violated all the necessary marriage requirements, constituting a serious breach of Shari’a principles.
