Kano in festive mood over wedding of Buhari’s son tomorrow

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

On Friday, August 20, 2021, Kano will witness an unprecedented presence of dignitaries as a result of the historic wedding of the son of the president, Yusuf Buhari and the daughter of the Emir of Bichi, Princess Zahra Nasiru Ado Bayero.

The wedding news started as a speculation on social media about two months ago, but it later proved to be true when families of the president stormed Kano in a very powerful delegation that includes governors and ministers to seek the hand of Princess Zahra in marriage. Emir of Kano Dr Aminu Ado Bayero was the one that represented the royal family, as such, the delegation did not go to Bichi but only had an audience with the Emir of Kano.

The present Emir of Kano, a trained pilot and Wamban Kano before his appointment as Emir of Bichi by the Ganduje administration, is the immediate elder brother to the father of the bride Zahra Nasiru Ado Bayero. He later became the Emir of Kano when Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was deposed by the Government of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Nasiru Ado Bayero who was then the Ciroma of Kano became the Emir of Bichi and Ado Bayero’s first son Lamido Ado Bayero has just been turbaned as Wamban Kano.

At the time of filing this report, an advanced party of the president who indicated his interest to personally be in Bichi for his only son’s wedding and to attend the coronation ceremony of Emir of Bichi, have arrived in Kano. Some have gone to Bichi to monitor security arrangements. Kano is very tensed because of the presence of fierce-looking security men that are placed in strategic places within the city to make the event hitch-free.

Even though names of personalities that will attend the two events are yet to be made public to the press, there is a standing order that even pressmen that do not have accreditation cards should not be allowed into the venue of the ceremony. The ceremony will be graced by the President, Diplomats, Ministers, Businessmen, Top Government Officials and other personalities from neighbouring countries. Already, all hotels in Kano are fully booked by guests that will be in the city from today to Sunday when the festivities will end.
