Kano police dismantle female-led theft syndicate
The Kano State Police Command has successfully dismantled a female-led syndicate of thieves, leading to the arrest of five suspects involved in the operation.
The main suspect, 19-year-old Shamsiyya Adamu, a resident of Brigade Quarters in Kano, was taken into custody on December 21, 2024, following multiple reports of stolen mobile phones in the Unguwa Uku Quarters.
In a statement released on Thursday, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kano Command, revealed that throughout 2024, the command had received numerous complaints from residents across Kano Metropolis regarding a young woman who was reportedly stealing mobile phones from residential homes.

‘’The reports indicated that the suspect was using a tricyclist and a cybercriminal to aid in her operations. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba raised a special intervention squad, and the principal suspect was arrested on December 21, 2024, ‘’the statement said.
According to the statement, the suspects would deceive housewives, steal their mobile phones, and swindle money from their victims’ bank accounts.
The statement said Shamsiyya Adamu aged 19-year-old is the principal suspect and leader of the syndicate.
Others include Idris Yusuf, aged 23-year-old, a tricycle rider who aided in transporting the principal suspect to commit crimes, Al’asan Dahiru, a 24-year-old suspect, who specialized in disposing of stolen items for the principal suspect, Abdulmajid Haruna, a 27-year-old suspect who specialized in buying stolen properties and Salim Auwalu, 21-year-old suspect, who specialised in swindling money from victims’ bank accounts.
SolaceBase reports that six mobile phones have been recovered so far, and efforts are ongoing to recover more stolen phones.
The statement added that thirty complainants, including 29 females and 1 male, have lodged complaints against Shamsiyya, who confessed to stealing their mobile phones on various occasions in 2024.
