Kano State Government seals film production centre over alleged building regulation violations
The Kano State Government has sealed a film production centre located in Unguwar Bello, Dorayi, over alleged violations of building regulations and claims that the facility was operating in an area designated for residential use.
The enforcement action was carried out on Wednesday during the “Operation Show Your Document” exercise conducted by the Task Force on Illegal Structures, led by the Director-General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), Dr. Dalhatu Sani Aliyu.
Speaking during the operation, Dr. Dalhatu said the government’s decision followed complaints from residents and Islamic scholars regarding the activities of the film production centre within the neighbourhood.

According to him, a preliminary investigation by the task force revealed that the facility had failed to meet several legal and regulatory requirements, including the provision of necessary approval documents.
“We received complaints from members of the community and some scholars concerning this facility. Following our investigation, we discovered several issues, and up to this moment, the owners have not presented the required documents,” he said.
Dr. Dalhatu further explained that even if the owners later produce the relevant documents, the centre would still be considered to be in breach of urban planning regulations because it is located in an area predominantly designated for residential purposes.
He noted that nearly all the properties in the area are residential buildings, making the establishment of a film production centre inconsistent with the state’s land-use policies.
The KANGIS Director-General also said the government was taking into account the social impact of such activities on the community, particularly on young people, as part of efforts to promote good morals and orderly development.
He warned that the state government would continue to enforce planning regulations and would not tolerate individuals or organisations operating outside the provisions of the law.
Dr. Dalhatu assured residents that the government would continue to respond to legitimate complaints and take appropriate action to protect public interest.
The closure forms part of the Kano State Government’s ongoing campaign to enforce urban planning laws and address illegal structures and unauthorized developments across the state.
