Kano State Govt pulls back from lawsuit against EFCC in alleged Ganduje bribery scandal
The Kano State Government has withdrawn a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court in Kano.
The suit aimed to prevent the EFCC from investigating former governor Abdullahi Ganduje over an alleged bribery scandal captured in a video clip.
The state’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Mr Haruna Dederi, initiated the legal action.
However, the government has now filed a notice of withdrawal, indicating its intention to allow the EFCC to continue inviting and interrogating the former Executive Chairman and Director of Finance of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), as well as the Accountant General of Kano State, regarding the bribery allegations.

The notice of discontinuance was submitted by Mrs Amina Yargaya, the Solicitor General of the Kano State Ministry of Justice.
The application was made in accordance with Order 50 of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2019, as amended.
Previously, the ministry, under the former Attorney General, had authorized Sanusi Musa SAN, a lawyer from Aliyu & Musa Legal Practitioner, to handle the case.
However, the present Attorney General has now revoked the instructions given to the lawyer to proceed with the case.
In a letter dated July 4, addressed to Sanusi Musa SAN, and signed by Dederi, the Attorney General stated:
“We are informing you that the Kano State Government and the Attorney General of Kano State have decided to revoke the earlier instructions given to you to handle case number FHC/KN/71/2023 between the Attorney General of Kano State and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“As a result, you and your team members are instructed not to take any further action in this matter, including appearing in court or filing any documents related to the case.”
It is worth noting that the Federal High Court had previously restrained the EFCC from taking any further action regarding the invitation, interrogation, and investigation of the individuals accused in the bribery allegations against Ganduje.
No specific date has been set for the hearing of the notice of withdrawal of the application.
