The management of Kaduna State University (KASU) has decided to suspend all academic activities for undergraduate students. This is as a result of the non-reversal of the school fees which was recently increased by over a hundred per cent by the Kaduna State Government.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Registrar of the school, Mr Samuel S. Manshop.
“Post Graduate Programmes, College of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and part-time programmes are to continue with their activities.
“Similarly, all staff are also expected to report to work, as usual, pending further communication by the management of the school, which is currently in consultation with stakeholders in and outside the university, the statement read.
It could be recalled that recently, the Kaduna State Government have increased school fees of the institution including other tertiary institutions under the state government. This has compelled students of the university to embark on massive demonstration, that has disrupted all academic activities in the university.
About 18 to 19 staff of the university that also participated recently in the NLC organized protest in the state against the sacking of over 4000 staff of the state government have also been fired by the Nasiru El-Rufai administration.
Some of the students of the institution and parents that spoke with Neptune Prime’s correspondent, Saleh Inuwa are bitter that a person like Governor El-Rufai who benefitted from the free education programme during his time can now come up with this very harsh policy that will deny the children of the poor an opportunity to further their studies. Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, the state government is planning to again sack the top management staff of the institution for closing the school without the government’s approval.
