Kebbi Gov’t releases N450 million for students’ scholarships

Kebbi State Government has released the sum of four hundred and fifty-seven million naira for the payment of scholarship allowance to indigent students of higher institutions across the country.

The State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Muktar Umar Bunza, who disclosed this at a press briefing, said the payment would commence soonest so that students can afford to pay for registration at their various institutions.

The Commissioner revealed that the state government has approved for the commencement of screening of three to five hundred indigent students to be sent to India, Cyprus and Turkey to study nursing, engineering and paramedical professions.

He said the state government has also allocated funds for the renovation of laboratories and offices of heads of departments at the College of Health Sciences and Technology Jega.

Similarly, the Commissioner told newsmen that, the government had confirmed the appointment of Dr Abubakar Abubakar as the Provost Adamu Aleiro College of Education Argungu, Dr Mohammed Murtala Musa, Provost College of Nursing Sciences Birnin Kebbi and Malam Sa’adu Haruna as Provost College of Health Sciences and Technology Jega.

According to the Commissioner, the appointment is with immediate effect and for five years single term.

While congratulating the confirmed provost, Professor Bunza, said their confirmation was best on merit during their acting capacity.

He urged them to put their best towards the development of education in the state.
