Kidnapped corps members have been rescued – NYSC DG
The eight members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who were kidnapped by unknown assailants on their way from Uyo in Akwa State to Sokoto State have been released.
The Director-General of NYSC, YD Ahmed, confirmed the release during a press briefing on August 23, 2024.
The corps members were abducted on August 17, 2024, on the Funtua-Bisau Road in Zamfara State.
Their kidnapping prompted an urgent response from multiple security agencies. “While in Zamfara, we collaborated with the Army, Police, DSS, and traditional rulers,” Ahmed stated.

He expressed gratitude for the combined efforts that led to the successful rescue.
The NYSC chief emphasized the importance of safety and advised corps members to avoid traveling at night.
“You will remember when these members were traveling from Uyo to Sokoto. They were kidnapped on Funtua-Bisau Road,” Ahmed noted.
The rescue operation involved intense coordination between the Nigerian Army, the NYSC, and local security forces.
Ahmed praised the security agencies for their swift action, which led to the recovery of the kidnapped corps members.
He assured that the welfare and security of NYSC members would remain a top priority.
The operation has been a significant relief to the families of the abducted corps members and highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance the safety of those serving in the NYSC programme.
