KMT Unity Cup Final: Nguru triumphs 5–1 over Potiskum LGA (Pictures)
Nguru Local Government Area emerged victorious in the inaugural KMT Unity Cup football final on Saturday, defeating Potiskum LGA 5-1 in a closely contested match at Damaturu’s Miyatti Sport Arena.
The final, held at the Miyatti Sport Arena in Damaturu, marked the culmination of a tournament specifically designed to foster unity, particularly among the youth of Yobe State.
Malam Hassan Joda, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, highlighted the commitment of the tournament’s namesake, developmental activist Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah, MFR to state unity.

Barrister Tumsah is deeply committed to the unity of Yobe State, Joda stated during the event. He revealed that this successful tournament serves as a pilot project.
“This particular event is just a pilot test,” Joda explained.” The main KMT Unity Cup competition will begin soon, starting from the grassroots level progressing from the ward level up to the local government level, and finally to the state level”.
Joda drew a powerful parallel to underscore the initiative’s purpose. “The primary aim is unity, just as Nelson Mandela used cricket to unite South Africa”.

Similarly, since football is the glue that binds our youth together, Barrister Tumsah decided to use football to unite the youth of this state.
The pilot competition featured teams representing six different areas from three distinct territorial zones within Yobe State, with Nguru LGA ultimately claiming the trophy in the final.
The champions received ₦500,000, runners-up Potiskum took home ₦300,000, and all participating clubs earned ₦100,000 in recognition.
