Lagos inferno claims three Lives as China returnee, two others found dead

Three persons, including a man who recently returned from China, have been confirmed dead following a fire outbreak in Lagos State, emergency officials have said.

The victims were recovered from the affected building after firefighters and rescue teams battled the blaze for several hours. The deceased China-returnee was reportedly trapped inside the structure alongside two other occupants when the fire broke out.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the bodies were recovered during a search-and-rescue operation after the fire was brought under control.

According to him, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, while the remains of the victims have been handed over to relevant authorities for further action. He added that emergency responders acted swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

Residents of the area expressed shock over the incident, as authorities urged Lagosians to observe fire safety measures and ensure electrical and gas installations are properly maintained.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also advised members of the public to promptly report fire outbreaks to enable quick response and minimise loss of lives and property.
