LG chairman arrested over selling ₦100m stadium land

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has taken into custody Abdullahi Mohammed, Chairman of Kiru Local Government Area, over allegations of selling land intended for the Kafin Maiyaki mini Stadium, valued at over ₦100 million.

The commission’s Public Relations Officer, Kabir Kabir, confirmed the arrest on Friday, February 28, 2025.

Kabir said the commission discovered that the amount was paid into Mohammed’s personal account.

Kabir stated that an investigation disclosed that a company, Mahasum, purchased the plots of land allocated for the mini stadium.

He noted that the local government chairman was cooperating with the investigation, which he said aimed to uncover the truth behind the fraudulent sale of land and bring those responsible to justice.

“The commission is working to root out corruption and ensure accountability, with the suspect currently in custody and the investigation ongoing,” Kabir added.
