Some livestock transporters have resorted to killing their animals due to the gridlock along the Koton Kafe highway, about 20 kilometers from the Kogi State capital, Lokoja caused by the breaking of the dam of River Benue and River Niger.
In a video obtained by Neptune Prime on Monday, the livestock transporters who had been stuck on the gridlock for about five days had to start killing their animals to prevent loss as the animals may die of starvation without food for so long.
In the video, one of the transporters, Ahmed from Bauchi State has lost four (4) of his cows in the truck due to hunger and starvation on the gridlock which has continued for days.
Other transporters affected by the gridlock include those conveying fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, pawpaw and other perishable items.
The gridlock along the highway held hundreds of petroleum tankers which has led to fuel scarcity in some parts of Abuja and neighbouring states in the country.
Kogi is considered as an economically import state in the country sharing borders with nine states in the north and south of the country.
Calls have gone out to the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to respond to the current flood-posed crisis being faced in the area by road users, Kogi, and other states ravaged by floods to prevent further economic loss and destruction of properties and critical infrastructures in the country.
