Lokpobiri refutes claims of halting NNPCL refineries
Senator Heineken Lokpobiri has refuted a statement attributed to him by Engr. Kamoru Busari, Director of Upstream in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
The claim suggested that Lokpobiri directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to cease operations at its refineries and focus solely on equity participation in other refineries.

In a statement, Lokpobiri clarified, “I categorically state that the assertion is false. It does not represent my position or that of the Federal Government.”
He emphasized that NNPCL operates independently under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) and is governed by its own board and management.
He further noted, “The oil and gas sector is fully deregulated, and the government is committed to promoting in-country refining. We encourage NNPCL to operate independently, adhering to global best practices.”
Lokpobiri reaffirmed the government’s support for NNPCL’s growth and its commitment to efficiency and transparency in operations.
The statement was signed by the minister himself.
