The Taraba State Government on Sunday blamed the delay in the take-off of the Mambilla Hydro Electric power project on ‘due process’ and not Gov Darius Ishaku as reported by the media.
Mr Danjuma Adamu, the State Commissioner for Information disclosed this at a joint press conference with the State Commissioner for Power, Dr Badina Garba in Jalingo.
Adamu noted that Ishaku, more than anyone else, was totally committed to ensuring the take off of the project for the benefit of the people of the state and Nigeria at large.
“Since the Federal Government decided to make the project a priority, Ishaku has taken several steps to aid and facilitate its takeoff.
“These include the hosting of the sensitization meeting of critical stakeholders in Abuja which was highly commended by the Minister of Power, Alhaji Saleh Mamman,” he said.
The Commissioner noted that Ishaku had also decided to commence construction of Mararaba-Baisssa-Abong-Ngureje road to open up access to the main site.
He dismissed the allegation that Ishaku refused to collect the cheque approved by the Federal government to pay compensation on the site, describing it as a lie.
On his part, the Commissioner for Power, Garba said the delay in the take off the project was caused by the numerous approvals that were needed before the commencement of any action.
According to him, the funds released to the Taraba government were not meant for compensation as reported in the media but for surveying of the area.
He explained that the state government had already approached the state house of assembly to approve the funds from Nezim bank of China for the survey work to commence.
