Man commits suicide after ₦500,000 gambling loss
A young man, Stephen Chidubem, has died by suicide, allegedly over unpaid gambling debts.
The incident took place in Saburi 2, Abuja, on Abba Street, behind the Anglican Church.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency specialist and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, announced this on Thursday via a post on his X handle. According to Makama, Chidubem used a rope fastened to a ceiling fan to hang himself.
The report states that after emergency personnel reached the scene, the body was taken to Kubwa General Hospital. A doctor declared him dead, and the body was then taken to the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

According to Makama, a suicide note found at the scene indicated that gambling addiction was the reason behind the terrible deed.
Chidubem expressed regret in the note to both those he owed and those he felt were impacted by his financial difficulties. “I apologise to everyone who cared, but I can’t continue putting people in trouble because of my gambling addiction,” the note said in part.
“Please pardon me, Paul, Elvis, and everything else I owe you. Additionally, Bishop Andy Ero, give Paul or Elvis the remaining ₦507,500”.
It was discovered that the deceased had been battling a serious gambling addiction that caused him to become deeply in debt and experience emotional distress.
