Man fatally stabs friend over N2,000 debt

A shocking incident unfolded in Akintola Village in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, as a 34-year-old man fatally stabbed his friend over a N2,000 debt.

Monday Chukwu, who is a resident of Akintola Village, was said to have stabbed his friend, Kefa Ofando, 30, who was owing him N2,000 but failed to pay him.

According to Police investigation, Chukwu had gone to ask the for the money he lent the deceased which led to hot argument between them.

The argument led to fisticuff between them and Chukwu allegedly stabbed his friend on the neck with a scissors and eventually died before he could be rushed to the hospital.

The Incident, which happened on September 20, 2024, sent panic to the spine of the residents.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, while parading 11 crime suspects at the Command headquarters, Alagbaka, Akure, “the Ondo State Police Command attached to the Odigbo Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on a complaint, swiftly responded and arrested one Monday Chukwu, a 34-year-old resident of Akintola village in the Odigbo area of the state. The suspect allegedly stabbed one Kefa Ofando, aged 30, to death.

“Discrete investigation revealed that the deceased had borrowed the suspect the sum of two thousand Naira, which, when demanded a few days later, led to an argument during which the suspect stabbed the victim with scissors on his neck.

“Upon arrival at the scene, crime scene experts recovered a pair of scissors, while a medical practitioner confirmed Kefa Ofando dead.”

He, therefore, said the suspect would be arraigned as soon as the investigation is concluded.

In another development, four suspects who specialized in stealing Toyota Corolla brainbox were arrested in Akure.

Two among the syndicate are based in Lagos while the other two are based in Akure.

One of the suspects, who confessed to the crime, disclosed that they usually took the part of the vehicle to Lagos for sale.

He said they sold the brainbox of manual Toyota Corolla at N30,000, while the automatic brainbox is sold at N60,000 only.

He disclosed that their main job is upgrading of vehicles, but took to stealing brainbox when things were really moving for them.
