Marry one woman to minimise hardship – Emir advises men

Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, the Emir of Zazzau has dropped his take on the ever-rising marital issues and hardship, blaming it on polygamy.

While speaking during the 30th edition of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) annual Ramadan lecture, the Emir advised men who aren’t financially capable to stick to one woman.

The monarch also said just because Islamic religion gives men the right to wed up to four wives doesn’t mean they have to, stating that this act has torn many families apart.

“In the palace, 192 families are living within and among them, you would see a man with over 50 children; how can he cater for them?” he said.

He also called for the inclusion of girls’ rights in Islamic education, stating that this would change a lot of narratives and build better societies.

He noted that the palace continues to use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in matrimonial issues, inheritance and land disputes, adding that, “These issues are the bane of many families.”
