Miners rescue 6-month-pregnant woman from rapists

Luck ran out for two notorious herdsmen who attempted to rape a six-month-pregnant woman, as she was timely rescued by a group of local miners in Jol community, Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, yesterday.

The pregnant woman, whose name has been withheld, was on her way home from Rotchu (Rafin-Acha) to Tarai Hamlet at about 3:45 pm when the assailants, suspected to be herdsmen, attacked her.

Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, the National President of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), confirmed the incident in a statement: “Information reaching us has it that two Fulani men assaulted and attempted to rape Mrs. Esther Zakka of Tarai Hamlet, Jol Community of Riyom LGA at about 2:00 pm this afternoon, 14th June 2024. Thankfully, local miners intervened.”

According to a local source, Mrs. Zakka was returning home from work when she was violently accosted by the two men. They hit her legs to weaken her resistance and attempted to rape her. One of the suspects forced himself on her pregnancy while the other held her neck, ignoring her repeated pleas.

In the struggle, Mrs Zakka’s screams attracted the attention of nearly miners, who rushed to aid and apprehended one of the suspects. The suspects is now in Custody with the Operation Rainbow Unit in Jol. Security agents have since rushed Mrs. Zakka to the hospital for medical treatment.
