Missing farmer’s body found inside 14ft Crocodile – A stark reminder of the menace they pose

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

The body of a missing 60-year-old farmer, Addi Bangsa, was tragically discovered inside the belly of a massive 14ft crocodile in Tawao, Malaysia, on July 23rd, ending a four-day search.

The Sabah Wildlife Department located the elderly man’s remains by cutting open the stomach of the giant reptile, much to the horror of Bangsa’s family, who were present during the early morning operation.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Jemishin Ujin, confirmed that the victim’s identity was confirmed as all of his body parts were found inside the creature’s gut.

On the fourth day of the search for Bangsa, the rescue team received information about a male crocodile that was believed to have swallowed the man.

Subsequent investigations supported this claim and led to the animal’s location.

At approximately 3 am on July 22nd, the crocodile was shot, and at around 9 am, the stomach was split open in front of the family members.

The enormous reptile weighed about 126 st and measured over 14ft in length.

The search operation concluded at 11 am after successfully recovering the victim’s body from the crocodile’s stomach.

This incident recalls a similar grim discovery in 2021 when the remains of an Australian fisherman were found inside a crocodile after he was attacked by two of these creatures on Hinchinbrook Island, Queensland.

Additionally, in 2020, the body of a 14-year-old boy, Ricky Ganya, was found inside a crocodile’s belly after he was attacked while collecting snails on a riverbank in Kuching, Malaysia.

In another incident in 2017, a crocodile carrying a human corpse in its jaws reportedly swam to a riverbank in Indonesia and dropped off the body, with locals claiming it was summoned by a witch doctor.

The victim in this case was a 41-year-old man named Syarifuddin, who was bathing with friends when the six-and-a-half-foot reptile attacked and dragged him underwater.
