Missing woman found dead in Delta apartment

A woman, identified only as Lucy, who had been missing since January 5, was discovered dead in her apartment on NNPC Road in Asaba, Delta State.

According to a Facebook post shared by Harrison Gwamnishu, the Senior Special Assistant on Civil Society and Youth Mobilisation to the Delta State Governor, Lucy’s body was found by a colleague from her workplace. After Lucy failed to show up for work without any communication, her employer sent someone to check on her.

The person arrived to find the apartment door locked and, upon peering through a window, discovered Lucy’s lifeless body inside. The co-worker immediately raised an alarm, drawing attention to the scene.

Gwamnishu shared further details, saying, “At her workplace, they started looking for her on January 5. They called her phone but got no response, so they sent someone to check on her. When they arrived, they found the door locked, but through the window, they saw Lucy’s body on the floor, naked and covered in blood.”

The investigation revealed that Lucy’s body had marks indicating she had been physically attacked. Her finger appeared to have been injured by a knife, and her hair was found scattered on the floor, suggesting she had struggled. It is believed that Lucy was murdered in her home.

Gwamnishu called on the Delta State Police to ensure justice for Lucy and bring those responsible to justice. He also urged residents of the state to report any threats to their safety to prevent such incidents.

“Nobody knows who killed Lucy. We are hopeful that the Delta State Police, under CP Abaniwonda, will conduct a thorough investigation,” Gwamnishu stated. “If anyone threatens your life, especially young women in Asaba, take it seriously and report it. Don’t ignore it.”

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is ongoing.

“Confirmed, and an investigation is underway,” Edafe said.
