Music legend Quincy Jones passes away at 91
Quincy Jones, the renowned musician and producer who collaborated with icons like Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra, has died at the age of 91.
His publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that Jones “passed away peacefully” on Sunday night at his home in Bel Air.
In a heartfelt family statement, they said, “Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. Although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
Jones was best known for producing Michael Jackson’s groundbreaking Thriller album.
Over a remarkable career spanning more than 75 years, Quincy Jones won 28 Grammy Awards and was recognized by Time magazine as one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century.
He produced and conducted the iconic 1985 charity single “We Are the World” and composed soundtracks for over 50 films and television programs, including In the Heat of the Night, The Color Purple, and The Italian Job.
In the early stages of his career, Jones collaborated closely with Frank Sinatra, notably reworking Sinatra’s classic “Fly Me to the Moon,” transforming it from a waltz into a swing arrangement.
While working on the film The Wiz, he began a partnership with a 19-year-old Michael Jackson. The two collaborated for decades, with Jones producing Jackson’s albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad.
