NAPTIP brings back 13-year-old trafficking victim from Burkina Faso
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued and repatriated a 13-year-old Nigerian girl who was trafficked to Burkina Faso for sexual exploitation.
According to the agency, the victim was lured out of Nigeria under false pretences and subsequently forced into prostitution after arriving in Burkina Faso. Her ordeal came to light following intelligence shared by international partners and local authorities in the West African country.
NAPTIP said the rescue was carried out through coordinated efforts involving Burkina Faso’s law enforcement agencies and relevant international organisations. The victim was safely returned to Nigeria and has been placed in the care of NAPTIP, where she is currently receiving medical attention, psychosocial support, and rehabilitation services.

The agency disclosed that investigations have begun to identify and apprehend those responsible for trafficking the minor, including recruiters and collaborators who facilitated her movement across borders. NAPTIP reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable children, urging parents and guardians to be vigilant against deceptive offers that could expose minors to exploitation.

NAPTIP also called on members of the public to report suspected cases of trafficking, stressing that early intervention remains crucial in preventing abuse and rescuing victims.
