National Security: DSS summons Fani-Kayode for questioning

The Department of State Services (DSS) said it has summoned former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, for interrogation.

Channels report that DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya confirmed that the agency has been quizzing Fani-Kayode since 9:00 am.

“Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has been with the DSS since 9 am today 13/02/23 in response to the invitation extended to him by the Service,” DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya said.

While the DSS did not state the reason for his invitation, multiple reports suggest that the former PDP member is being quizzed over his comments about plots for a coup.

Fani-Kayode said he had quoted a newspaper report that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, met with some unnamed army general.

However, in a tweet on Sunday, the former minister said the army has since denied the claim.

Confirming the invitation on Monday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said he has nothing to fear and will willingly visit the service.

“PRESS STATEMENT: MY INVITATION TO DSS, 3 days ago, on the day that I tweeted about newspaper reports alleging that Atiku was secretly meeting with Army Generals, I got a text message from someone who claimed to be DSS asking me to report to them on a matter of national security, the minister tweeted via his verified Twitter page (@realFFK).

“I always honour their invitations when properly invited because that is the right and proper thing to do.

“This is all the more so when it touches and concerns matters of national security which I take very seriously & when it involves agencies like the DSS who are professional and thorough in their methods and approach.

“I have nothing to hide and consequently I will present myself before the DSS this morning as I have been asked to do.”

Despite the invitation, Fani-Kayode said he won’t be deterred in his campaigns for APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

“I am used to interrogation, detention, prosecution and so much more and have suffered these indignities on many occasions over the last 15 years,” he added.
