NCS sheds light on 2019 shooting video amid viral circulation
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral video currently circulating on social media, which depicts a disturbing shooting incident involving its operatives.
In a press statement issued today,the NCS confirmed that the incident in question took place on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the Shagamu Interchange in Ogun State, not recently as some reports have suggested. The Service emphasized that the matter was conclusively addressed at the time, with disciplinary actions taken against the officers involved, including their dismissal.
According to the statement signed by Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, National Public Relations Officer(NPRO),the NCS followed due process after the incident, establishing a disciplinary panel to investigate the case and releasing a public statement shortly afterward.

“The Service took immediate steps to address the situation in line with its internal procedures… appropriate sanctions were applied, including the dismissal of the officers found culpable,” the statement read.
The NCS reiterated its commitment to professionalism and zero tolerance for misconduct, affirming that it is a statutory agency governed by strict rules of engagement.
While acknowledging the public’s concern over the resurfaced video, the Customs Service urged Nigerians to refrain from spreading misleading content and instead rely on verified information from its official channels.
“The NCS deeply values the vigilance and feedback of Nigerians and reaffirms its commitment to delivering accountable service while upholding integrity and respect for human dignity,” the statement said.
Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, the NCS noted ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening internal controls and enhancing staff capacity through targeted training initiatives.
These efforts, the Service said, are part of a broader strategy to build public trust and reinforce transparency.
The Customs Service concluded by assuring Nigerians that it remains steadfast in its mission to serve with integrity, uphold the rule of law, and foster mutually respectful relationships with the public.
