NDLEA intercepts Canadian loud in Lagos, seizes tramadol pills

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a substantial consignment of Canadian loud, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis, in the Onikan area of Lagos Island.

The operation led to the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect, Taofeek Yusuf, who was found transporting the illicit substance in an unregistered Grand Caravan vehicle.

The apprehension took place on Friday, January 12, 2024, following credible intelligence This development follows closely on the heels of another drug trafficking case involving Godwin ThankGod, who was arrested the previous day at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, attempting to board a flight to Milan, Italy, with codeine-based syrup and rohypnol concealed in his luggage.

NDLEA operatives at the SAHCO import shed of the airport also recovered 30,000 packs of tramadol weighing 111.2 kilograms on January 12, which had arrived from Karachi, Pakistan.

In addition to these, various quantities of tramadol and cannabis sativa were intercepted at courier firms in Lagos, and a clandestine skuchies factory in Oyo state was raided, resulting in the recovery of psychoactive substances.

Several arrests were made in Ondo, Edo, Kogi, Katsina, and Gombe states, with suspects caught in possession of significant quantities of cannabis sativa.

The NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continued with sensitisation lectures and advocacy visits across the country.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the efforts of the officers and urged them to maintain the tempo of offensive actions while prioritising drug demand reduction efforts.
