NDLEA seizes ₦14.9bn worth of opioids, arrests community leader’s wives, son

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized a massive haul of 25 million pills of tapentadol and 350,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup, valued at ₦14.9 billion. The bust took place at the Tincan Port Complex in Lagos, marking one of the agency’s largest seizures to date.

NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the officers involved, stating, “Their operational successes and balanced approach to reducing both drug supply and demand are highly commendable.”

Among those arrested is 80-year-old Pa Aremu Shojobi, who was caught with 14kg of cannabis. Shojobi confessed that he had been selling illicit drugs for over 25 years.

Other significant arrests include:

– The wives and son of Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Talba, found with 226kg of cannabis

– Okafor Ifeanyi Anthony, caught with 76 wraps of cocaine at Kano Airport

– Udemefuna Chibuike, arrested with 49,000 tablets of tramadol and other substances

– Ogochukwu Paul, apprehended with 213kg of cannabis

Meanwhile, the NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, ramping up sensitization efforts across the country.
