NEMA, NSEMA deploy teams following Niger dynamite explosion

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) are joining forces to respond to a dynamite explosion that occurred in a residential area of Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area, Niger State.

The explosion, which took place early on Sunday at approximately 7:30 am, was confirmed by the Niger State Police Command.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the blast was caused by dynamite stored in a residential building. The explosion resulted in the death of one individual, Fatima Sadauki, while six others were injured and transported to the General Hospital Kainji, New Bussa, for treatment.

The explosion caused significant damage, affecting around 12 houses in the area. NEMA has been alerted and is working alongside NSEMA to coordinate an emergency response.

The dynamite was reportedly stored by a local artisan miner in an apartment rented for his workers. Several residents in the vicinity were impacted by the blast, and substantial property damage occurred.

NEMA’s Minna Operation Office and NSEMA are actively collaborating to manage the aftermath of this tragic incident.
