New bride gang-raped to death by groom, 3 friends

Operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command have arrested four people, including a groom rape, and sexual assault in the state.

According to reports, the groom, a 20-year-old man identified as Auwal Abdulwahab committed the crime alongside his three friends.

The incident happened on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at about 10pm in Tungo village, Albasu District in Sule Tankarkar local Government.

Confirming the incident, the Spokesman of the command, SP. Lawan Shiisu Adam said the assault occurred within days after the wedding.

He said, “The groom is alleged to have conspired with his three friends, namely Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan and Hamisu Musa to enter into his matrimonial home to coerce his bride into non-consensual sexual activity, while in the process, the said wife died.”

He added that upon receipt of the report, police officers swung into action, and the suspects were arrested.

The corpse of the bride was taken to the Gumel General Hospital for autopsy.

Shiisu added that the state commissioner of police, CP AT Abdullahi ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the state CID for proper investigations.

“After the investigation is completed, all suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.

“The suspects will face two charges under relevant laws of the jurisdiction, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide,” he added.
