The New York Film Critics Circle assembled remotely to determine this year’s top film honorees, which were announced on Friday, and Chadwick Boseman was posthumously named Best Supporting Actor for his role in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods, which premiered via Netflix in June.
The late actor tragically passed away on August 28 at the age of 43, following a private years-long battle with colon cancer.

Da 5 Bloods happens to be Chadwick’s second to last film role, with George C. Wolfe’s music-drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom being his final on-screen performance.
Lee’s Vietnam War-era film, which debuted via Netflix in June, also garnered the Best Lead Actor honour thanks to Delroy Lindo.
Da 5 Bloods follows four African American veterans who return to Vietnam decades after the war has ended to find the remains of their squad leader, played by Boseman, and the stash of gold they buried there.
