The Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the skills of its officers and personnel through training at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos.

Acting Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR reiterated this commitment on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja by the Director-General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, and his management team.

The Acting CG expressed his appreciation for NIPSS’s role in promoting trade in Nigeria and pledged to continue their collaborative efforts.

He emphasized their joint pursuit of scientific solutions for trade modeling and monitoring legitimate trade activities at entry and exit points.

Adeniyi acknowledged the significant value of NIPSS’s training programs for Customs officers and called for the establishment of a sustainable partnership.

In response, Professor Ayo Omotayo, the Director-General of NIPSS, congratulated the Acting CG on his well-deserved appointment.

He stated that the purpose of their visit was to address trade-related challenges hindering smooth facilitation. He also requested the establishment of a data collection center for trade modeling.

Prof. Omotayo expressed optimism regarding Customs’ pivotal role in trade facilitation and proposed the creation of a pension institute for retired officers.

He extended an invitation for Customs to become an active member of NIPSS to bolster collaboration with other stakeholders in the modernization of trade in Nigeria.
