Nigeria rejects Trump’s ‘baseless’ claims of Christian persecution as US threatens military action

Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar dismissed what he described as “impossible” US allegations that the Nigerian government permits the persecution and killing of Christians. Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, Tuggar cited Nigeria’s constitution as a safeguard for religious freedom, stressing that the government is legally bound to protect every citizen regardless of faith.

He cautioned against foreign attempts to destabilize the country after Trump threatened military action if Nigeria fails to protect Christians. Tuggar warned that such rhetoric risks igniting sectarian tensions similar to those that led to Sudan’s fragmentation, urging the international community not to repeat past mistakes.

Trump’s remarks, shared on his Truth Social platform, accused Nigeria of allowing anti-Christian violence and threatened to cut aid. The US President has also directed the US military to ready plans for potential action in Nigeria.
