Nigerian troops battle terrorists in attack on Yobe military base

The Nigerian troops have restricted movement along Damaturu-Damboa-Biu Road after Boko Haram insurgents launched a major attack on the base of the special forces of the 27 Task Force Brigade, located in Ngomari in Buni Yadi and Kumuya in the Buni Gari area of Yobe State, killing three soldiers while about 171 others reportedly fled the base or are missing in action.

Reports gathered the terrorists hit the location when some Special Forces of the 27 Task Force Brigade, deployed at Buni Gari, went on a patrol.

Assisted by local informants and sympathisers, they stormed Kumuya community, attacked villagers, the base and destroyed the military equipment.

The terrorists used heavy weapons in the assault and patrolled the community to prevent the reinforcement of soldiers.

It was learnt that the insurgents withdrew when reinforcements from the Nigerian troops came to the base.

A section of the military base at Kumuya was burnt, while the number of casualties the military suffered is yet to be ascertained.
