Story from Jane AISO

Nigeria’s Flora Ugwunwa has won a silver medal in the women’s Javelin F54 event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Ugwunwa finished second in the competition with a throw of 19.26m, coming in behind Uzbekistan’s Nurkhon Kurbanova, who set a new world record with a throw of 21.12m.

This achievement marks Nigeria’s first medal in the women’s javelin category at the current Paralympic Games, bringing the country’s total medal count at the event to four.

Ugwunwa, now 40, has been a consistent force in Paralympic athletics, having previously won two gold medals in Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2020).
