NNPC set to hand over Warri, Kaduna refineries to private operators
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced its plans to transfer the operations and maintenance of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company to private operators.
The NNPCL is actively seeking reputable and credible Operations and Maintenance companies to take over the management of these facilities.
This development was revealed in a statement released on Friday via NNPCL’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The Warri Refinery, located in Delta State, was commissioned in 1978 and boasts a nameplate distillation capacity of 125,000 barrels per day (bpd).

The facility is a complex conversion refinery and includes a petrochemical plant that was commissioned in 1988.
This plant has production capacities of 13,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTA) of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black, catering to markets in the southern and southwestern regions of Nigeria.
Similarly, the Kaduna Refinery was commissioned in 1980 with an initial capacity of 50,000 bpd, which was later expanded to 110,000 bpd.
The refinery primarily serves the northern region of the country and has undergone several expansions to increase its production capacity, including the addition of a second crude train dedicated to the production of lubricating oils.
