NPC assures Potiskum indigenes of full demarcation

National Population Commission (NPC) has assured to fully demarcate Potiskum township and environs in its ongoing area demarcation exercise.

Federal Commissioner representing Yobe at the National Population Commission (NPC), Mai Aliyu Muhammad gave the assurance while on advocacy visit to Fika Emirate Council palace in Potiskum town of Yobe State.

Receiving the Federal Commissioner, Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, Dr Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa represented by the Galadima of Fika, Air Commodore Ibrahim Alkali (Rtd) thanked him for the visit and informed him that the census conducted in the past was not completed fully “some places were not fully captured in the exercise including some villages but with the trend of your recent approach, we believe the situation will change for better, we wish you a successful exercise and assure you of our support and cooperation”.

In his remarks, the Federal Commissioner Yobe of the National Population Commission (NPC), Mai Aliyu Muhammad said that they were in Potiskum town for update of the demarcation exercise which was last conducted in 2016.

He revealed that some local government areas in Yobe State too in the past were not fully captured due to the activities of the insurgents.

Muhammad stated that Potiskum is one of the fastest population growing cities in the Northeast, “we are determined and now here to update our records including buildings. I assure you that we will demarcate Potiskum in total without leaving an inch, God will ask us if we didn’t do it accordingly”.

“Mr President has given us the go-ahead to do all the preliminary work in preparation of the Census exercise. We have 7 teams to cover Potiskum in the exercise, we will not allow any inch to be left out in the exercise, I am aware of the problems encountered in the past, we will closely supervise the exercise”.

The Federal Commissioner further solicited the continued support of the traditional institution to enable them to succeed in the exercise.

“Vital registration of children 0-5 years old who have not been registered will be captured as our staff are working round the clock, it is a free exercise undertaken by the Commission. We have a presence in all the local government areas of the state”.
