NSA demands retraction from Naja’atu Mohammed over TikTok video
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has demanded a public apology and retraction from Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad, the leader of Northern Star, over a TikTok video that he claims is defamatory.
In the video, Hajiya Muhammad accused the NSA of hypocrisy, alleging that while he once criticized President Bola Tinubu when he served as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), he now defends him.
According to the video, Ribadu had previously named President Tinubu, Senator George Akume, and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the governors who had stolen the most from the public treasury.
In a letter addressed to Hajiya Muhammad through his lawyer, Dr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, Mallam Ribadu vehemently denied the accusations, asserting that he has never made such statements, either publicly or privately. He expressed that the allegations made in the video were a complete surprise to him and have caused significant damage to his reputation.
The letter, dated February 4, 2025, reads: “In the video you posted, you claimed that our client, when he was the EFCC Chairman, named President Tinubu, Sen. Akume, and Sen. Kalu as the governors responsible for the most corruption in Nigeria. You further alleged that he has now become one of President Tinubu’s strongest supporters, which you suggested proves he is either lying now or lied in the past.
Our client categorically denies ever making such statements about the President, Sen. Akume, or Sen. Kalu, and is shocked by the content of your video. Your claims have damaged his reputation and painted him as deceitful and duplicitous. We challenge you to provide evidence of these allegations, which you have presented as facts, and we ask that you retract them immediately.
While you may have framed this as a call for the North to rise against perceived injustice, your statements are provocative and have incited hostility towards our client. Given the potential for further harm, we will not allow our client’s hard-earned reputation to be tarnished by false accusations. The video was deliberately shared on social media and has gone viral, worsening the damage.
The harm caused is immeasurable, but our client will accept an apology and retraction. We demand that you publicly retract the statements and issue an unreserved apology in at least five national newspapers within seven days of receiving this letter. If you fail to comply, our client is prepared to pursue legal action and seek exemplary damages in court.”
This letter serves as a final warning before any further legal steps are taken.
