NSA Ribadu, others meet US lawmaker Moore over Christian genocide claims in Nigeria

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on Wednesday led a high-powered delegation to Washington, D.C., to engage U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore on claims of Christian persecution and the escalating threat of terrorism in Nigeria.

The team included Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and Chief of Defence Intelligence Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Undiendeye, alongside senior officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

According to a statement from Congressman Moore’s office, the meeting was described as “frank, honest, and productive,” focusing on counterterrorism collaboration, security assistance, and the protection of vulnerable communities in the North-East and Middle Belt.

Moore said Nigerian officials expressed deep concern over ongoing attacks, rising violence, and operational difficulties in tackling extremist groups. He affirmed that the U.S. was ready to work closely with Nigeria to address both terrorism and alleged religious persecution.

In a message posted on his official X account, Moore stated:

“Today, I had a frank, honest, and productive discussion with senior members of the Nigerian government regarding the horrific violence and persecution Christians face and the ongoing threat terrorism poses across Nigeria. I made it crystal clear that the United States must see tangible steps to ensure that Christians are not subject to violence, persecution, displacement, and death simply for believing in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
