The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) in Kano State destroyed counterfeit products and fake electric cables worth N8 million.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, by the command’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi.

He stated that fake products such as fake mosquito repellents and sub-standard cables were seized by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, (SON) and the state command in Gwangwan in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

“Operatives of the Anti-Vandalism Unit of the Corps participated in the destruction of thousands of cartons of expired mosquito coils and substandard electrical cables.

“The Corps, in a recent joint operation with the SON, embarked on a clampdown of traders who specialised in selling expired and substandard products, thereby endangering lives of the citizenry.

“During the successful operations, cartons of expired and substandard products were confiscated and the culprits were charged to court.”

In witness to the destruction were the National Environmental Standard and Regulatory Agency, (NESREA), the SON and NSCDC.
