Obi condemns North Central’s exclusion from 2025 fiscal budget
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi has strongly condemned the federal government’s decision to exclude the North Central region from the 2025 fiscal budget allocations to the regional development commissions.
In a tweet on his official X handle, Obi expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s discriminatory action and its potential negative impact on the region’s development and stability.
He stated, “The exclusion of the North Central Regional Commission from the budgetary allocations provided to other regional commissions in the 2025 proposed budget is deeply troubling and must be urgently reversed.”

Obi argued that such a move would not foster the even development and peace necessary for Nigeria’s progress, highlighting that the North Central region, in particular, requires urgent and focused attention due to the numerous challenges it faces.
A total of N2.493 trillion has been allocated to five regional development commissions in the 2025 budget, but the North Central Regional Commission has been glaringly omitted from these allocations. Obi pointed out the severe crises facing states like Plateau, Benue, Kogi, and Niger, which have been plagued by incessant terrorist attacks and banditry. These ongoing security issues have resulted in significant loss of life, displacement of families, and the creation of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
“The North Central region is one of the most affected and vulnerable areas in Nigeria today,” Obi said, stressing that it has become an agricultural backbone for the country. He emphasized that this region deserves critical support for its security, stability, and overall development, which will, in turn, benefit the entire nation.
Obi called on both the federal government and the National Assembly to immediately review and rectify this exclusion, warning that neglecting the North Central region will have far-reaching consequences for the country’s overall development.
He concluded with a call for unity, saying, “Together, we must work toward a more inclusive and equitable Nigeria. A New Nigeria is not just a dream—it is POssible.”
