Ofodile Anulika designs Nigeria’s first indigenous military-grade UAV
Nigeria has made impressive strides in military technology, with Lieutenant Nkemdilim Anulika Ofodile standing at the forefront of this innovation.
An accomplished aerospace engineer and trailblazer in the Nigerian Air Force, Lieutenant Ofodile is the mastermind behind Nigeria’s first indigenously produced military-grade Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), the Tsaigumi Tactical UAV.
Unveiled in 2018, the Tsaigumi Tactical UAV is the result of a collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and UAVision, a Portuguese defense technology firm. It was designed for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, enhancing Nigeria’s military capabilities both on land and at sea.
This milestone marks a significant achievement in Nigeria’s pursuit of technological independence in military aviation, with Lieutenant Ofodile playing a central role. Her expertise in avionic systems was instrumental in the success of the Tsaigumi project, establishing her as a key figure in the country’s aerospace advancement.
Lieutenant Ofodile’s journey to becoming a leading aerospace engineer is both remarkable and inspiring. She holds a PhD in Control Engineering from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. Her specialization in control systems—an essential component of UAV development—has made her an indispensable asset to the Nigerian Air Force’s engineering division.
