Okada riders beat man to death, run away with victim’s body

Story by Victor Itodo ABUH

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the death of Suleiman Haruna, a 28-year-old man allegedly killed by a mob of unidentified commercial motorcycle riders in the Sabo area of Ijebu-Ode.

The incident, which took place on Sunday, caused panic among residents. Reports indicate that Haruna was clubbed to death, and his body was taken away by the suspected riders, leaving the community in disarray.

Those arrested by the police include Monsuru Bakasheri, Sulaiman, Shaibu Ibrahim, and Aliu Rabiu. The motive behind the attack remains unclear as investigations continue.

A resident, Usman Zuberu, reportedly told the police that the attack occurred around 10 a.m. on Sunday while the victim was attending a Maulud prayer session. According to Zuberu, the incident was brought to his attention by other members of the community.

Police officers from the Obalende Division arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the unrest. However, they were unable to locate Haruna’s body, which had allegedly been taken away by the perpetrators.

Speaking on the matter, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Odutola Omolola, confirmed that efforts to recover the victim’s body had been unsuccessful so far but assured residents that investigations were ongoing.

“In connection with the incident, four suspects, including Monsuru Bakasheri, Sulaiman, Shaibu Ibrahim, and Aliu Rabiu, have been apprehended and interrogated. All suspects are reported to be adults,” she said.
