Okpebholo forms committee to probe Obaseki’s administration

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has formed a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to investigate the administration of his predecessor, former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The committee, set to be inaugurated tomorrow at the Government House in Benin, will be chaired by Dr. Ernest Umakhihe, with Anslem Ojezua as deputy chairman.

Other members include Prince Kassim Afegbua, Patrick Ikhariale, and Rasaq Bello-Osagie, among others, with Frank Edebor serving as secretary.

Governor Okpebholo, through his Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, stated that the committee’s formation aligns with his commitment to accountable governance and transparency.

He emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the previous administration’s assets and liabilities, noting that earlier efforts by the Obaseki-led government lacked sufficient financial clarity.

In response, Obaseki’s media aide, Crusoe Osagie, dismissed the committee as a political distraction, accusing Governor Okpebholo of using the investigation to deflect from his own shortcomings in office.
